Member access issues

OK... After talking with Dave, I've got a better handle on what the login issues are that some of you are experiencing.
I'll try to explain what is going on as best as possible...

The main site (nacbi.org) and this message board (nacbi.org/community) are actually 2 different sites. Even though the message board resides under the primary domain name directory, it is a separate site that requires a separate login. Both sites require separate login as they are not tied together. If you are logged into this message board, you are NOT automatically logged into the main site and vice versa.

The problem some folks are having is when they have their browser "save" their login information on either site.
The cookie that is actually saved is not for the page you are on, but rather the primary domain of nacbi.org. So if you had your browser save the login information (username and password) for the message board, then proceed to login to the main site page at nacbi.org, the login prompt will automatically fill with the INCORRECT login info. Your login attempt will not be recognized UNLESS your login usernames AND passwords are IDENTICAL for BOTH sites. Because I added each of you manually to the new site, this is not possible initially and why many of you have had problems logging in to the new site (because you are trying to use the login credentials for this message board).

There are a few ways to correct this...
  1. Reset one or both passwords to be identical (this will only work if your usernames and/or emails for both sites are also identical)
  2. Have your browser save one set of login credentials for one of the sites, but know that you must manually type in the correct login credentials for the other site (this is what I do just for added security)
  3. Have your browser "forget" your login credentials by clearing the saved information, and log in manually to both sites.
That's really it, and unfortunately the only way to maintain ideal security on both sites.
I'll give everyone a couple more weeks and will then increase security measures to limit login attempts. This will help curb some of the brute force attacks that occur trying to gain administration access to the sites. Limiting the attempts allows up to 5 failed login attempts within 24 hours before your IP is temporarily blocked (the login prompt shows your remaining attempts). First offense is for a few minutes, second offense within a day blocks you for 24 hours. Multiple failed attempts ends up black listing your IP

Hope this helps.

Hi Chuck,

When you are logged in to the main site, click on the "My Account" menu item if you aren't redirected to your account page immediately.
From your account page, there will be a menu of links/tabs across the top. Click on the "Full NACBI Membership" tab (last one). Items and links only available to existing members will appear. One of these being your business listing submission.
Instructions your account page are posted in the text on your account page.
Instructions for submitting your business listing are listed on that page when you click it.
Hi Bill,
I am not finding myself on the inspector locator either. I did find this on the site:
If there are NO downloads available OR you do not see the "Full NACBI Memebrship" tab, this means your membership has expired and it is time to renew. Please visit http://nacbi.org/join-nacbi/ to renew or begin your membership.
I believe I am fully paid. If you can look at my account and let me know what I am doing wrong that would be great. Thanks for all that you do for us.

It is up to members to list themselves on the locator. We will not do this for you.

In the past John took it upon himself to manually add members and their images and their bios, etc. etc. to previous locators (required a LOT of time and effort from John), but due to our error in assumption that all members were willing to serve at least neighboring states, and the fact that several of the business websites listed outdated bios or remained focused on residential services, we will no longer add them manually. We will simply leave it up to members to add themselves should they decide if they want to be listed, what they want to be listed, and where they want to be listed. It does require completing a very brief easy to use form and uploading your profile image and logo. 5-10 minutes tops if that, but worth the effort. Should any of your information change, you relocate, or you decide to add service areas, you can easily return to your listing and edit to your heart's content!

Hi Bill, I've been updating my profile and it only is allowing me to list one service. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

If you're talking about your "extended" profile... that is a bit different, and a tutorial for that will be forthcoming. But for that profile, you can select multiple services by holding CTRL and clicking on the services to highlight them.

For right now, you'll want to focus on getting all your information added to your business directory listing which I just posted the video tutorial.
